SP001 Maths Paper 1 Booklet A - Question 10

The figure is formed by a square, a semi-circle and a quarter-circle. What is
the area of the shaded part? Take $\pi = \dfrac{22}{7}$ .

(1) $33 \text{ cm}^2$
(2) $462 \text{ cm}^2$
(3) $115.5 \text{ cm}^2$
(4) $154 \text{ cm}^2$

Radius of each quarter-circle r	= $\dfrac{28}{2} = 14\text{ cm}$
Area of one quarter-circle	= $\dfrac{1}{4} \pi r^2$
	= $\dfrac{1}{4} \times \dfrac{22}{7} \times 14^2$
	= $22 \times 7$
	= $154\text{ cm}^2$
Total shaded area	= $3 \times 154\text{ cm}^2$
	= $462\text{ cm}^2$

The answer is option (2).
