A concert would be played at theatre this weekend.
A class of $40$ students want to attend the concert.
Tickets are sold at $\$12.50$ each.
There will be a $\$2.50$ discount for every purchase of $6$ tickets.
What is the percentage discount for the class?
(1) 2%
(2) 3%
(3) 5%
(4) 6%

Original cost of 40 tickets$$40 \times \$12.50 = \$500$$

Total discount for 40 tickets$$40 \text{ tickets} = \dfrac{36}{6} \text{ groups of } 6 \text{ tickets} + 4 \text{ remaining tickets}$$ $$\text{Discount} = 6 \times \$2.50 = \$15$$

Percentage discount$$\dfrac{\text{Total Discount}}{\text{Original Cost}} \times 100\% = \dfrac{\$15}{\$500} \times 100\%$$ $$= \dfrac{3}{100} \times 100\% = \boxed{3\%}$$

The answer is option (2).
